After unauthorized AI deepfakes of Bryan Cranston appeared on OpenAI's Sora 2, he alerted the Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). The incident, which included a video of Cranston and a deepfaked Michael Jackson, was discussed on Reddit and led to a collaboration between SAG-AFTRA, Cranston, and OpenAI to enhance AI protection for performers.

Phony Social Media Posts on L.A. Businessman

These phony posts were determined to be stemmed from an extortion attempt, from approximately three years ago, against Los Angeles businessman Arsen Samvelian for economic gain. The LAPD had retained one report from last year and will be taking a new report once these fake posts have been translated. Arsen Samvelian’s lawyers confirmed that a civil extortion and defamation case has been filed and a civil restraining order is in process.(Updated 10/28/25)

After the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, social media claims offering political views of the assassination and the reaction to it quickly spread. One message falsely claimed that “not a single Republican condemned” the targeted shooting of a Democratic politician in Minnesota in June. Many Republicans, including President Donald Trump, condemned it.

Baseless Claim Linking Protesters to Craigslist Ad

Q: Is there an ad in Craigslist to hire people to riot in L.A.?

A: No, there has been no such ad on Craigslist. Some social media posts cited a Craigslist ad to falsely claim it showed that people protesting the immigration raids in Los Angeles were being paid for their actions. But a pair of podcasters told the Associated Press they placed the ad as a prank for their show, and it had nothing to do with the protests.

Phony ‘Leaked’ Audio of Vance Criticizing Musk

Vice President JD Vance has said White House adviser Elon Musk has made “mistakes” in his work with the Department of Government Efficiency. But social media posts are sharing what experts said is a manipulated audio clip that purports to be Vance making much harsher remarks about Musk. The vice president’s spokesperson called the clip “100% fake.”
